Our New Mayor of Merton
Many congratulations to our lovely West Barnes Ward Councillor, Gilli Lewis-Lavender, on becoming Merton’s First Citizen. A well deserved recognition of her hard work over the last eleven years!

Gilli was installed as Merton’s Mayor at the Annual Council Meeting and Mayor-making on Wednesday 11th May, and she chose her husband and best friend Brian, as Mayor’s Consort.
Gilli is planning a very full programme of events to raise money for her Charities, including a medieval banquet that she hopes will be held in the historic remains of Merton Priory to raise money for its restoration project.
Whilst her main charity will be the Merton branch of Parkinson’s UK, she also has plans for summer concerts and community parties in aid of seven other good causes. Amongst others, Gilli is proposing a ‘Dancing through the Decades’ party in Mitcham to raise money for four charities supporting the borough’s older people, and an outdoor concert to promote and support the Merton Concert Band and the Merton Music Foundation.
Not only do we all wish her every success, we hope everyone will go along and support these exciting events.
