Latest LESSA news
LESSA, the disused sports ground between Westway, Greenway, Grand Drive and Blenheim Road has been the subject of a series of planning applications and campaigns, but is now being developed by Bellway Homes. Permission was granted on appeal for the redevelopment of the site, now known as 119 Grand Drive, to include the provision of a sports ground and pavilions, new houses and flats. It will be accessed from Grand Drive. The new cycle/pedestrian access linking Westway to Grand Drive is now open. Construction of the dwellings is nearly complete and some are now occupied.
An additional application for a new dwelling between 9 and 15 Greenway was submitted, also by Bellway Homes. This planning application was approved, despite objections made by the Association. We are concerned over a number of matters, including how the house would fit in with the existing houses in Greenway and the presence of a United Kingdom Power Networks' (UKPN) transformer station immediatedly adjoining the site. You can view the details on the Merton Planning Explorer here, however the deadline for comments has now passed. The Residents' Association stiil has concerns over this issue.

The site is known as "LESSA" because it used to be the London Electricity Sports and Social Association ground, back in the 80s - before EDF (Electricite de France) bought the company.
